AMC, AUDA, GMC, GUDA, GIDC or Dholera SIR: which authority applies to your property?
The first question in any approval is who approves it. How jurisdiction works around Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, and why it changes everything that follows.
Before anyone draws a plan, one question needs an answer: which authority has jurisdiction over the site? Around Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, neighbouring plots can fall under different bodies, and each has its own submission process, scrutiny and inspection.
The authorities we work with
- AMC (Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation): land within Ahmedabad's municipal limits.
- AUDA (Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority): the urban development area around the city, outside AMC limits.
- GMC (Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation): land within Gandhinagar's municipal limits.
- GUDA (Gandhinagar Urban Development Authority): the development area around Gandhinagar.
- GIDC (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation): plots inside GIDC industrial estates, which follow GIDC's own approval system.
- Dholera SIR: the Dholera Special Investment Region, with its own development regulations.
Why it matters
The authority decides which regulations apply, which development plan and TP scheme govern the plot, how the application is filed and who inspects the site. Municipal limits also change over time as areas are merged in, so a plot that sat under AUDA a few years ago may now be under AMC. Always confirm the current position rather than relying on an old document.
